Global Switch Hong Kong becomes first data centre in the region to achieve OCP Ready™ status
LONDON, United Kingdom – 31 July 2024 – Global Switch, a leading owner, operator and developer of large-scale, network dense, carrier and cloud neutral, multi-customer data centres in Europe and Asia-Pacific, welcomes the Open Compute Project Foundation (OCP) recognition of its Hong Kong data centre as the first – and currently only – data centre in Hong Kong fully OCP Ready™ v1.
OCP Ready™ data centres offer many advantages for Machine Learning and AI applications thanks to the synergies between the OCP guidelines and the high-density power, cooling and physical infrastructure demanded by these deployments. The flexibility of the installed infrastructure also enables Global Switch Hong Kong to provide super-high rack deployment for chipsets that are unable to be supported by air.
The OCP Ready™ programme was launched in 2018 to help organisations find data centres where OCP IT equipment can be deployed at scale, with ease. Global Switch Hong Kong joins an elite list of data centres, including Global Switch’s own Amsterdam East facility, which have received this coveted certification. The data centre achieved Optimum ratings in several key categories including power and cooling.
Global Switch’s Hong Kong data centre is located in the Tseung Kwan O Industrial Estate, developed by Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks to help maintain the region’s position as one of the world’s leading economic centres. With 70,545 sq m of world class infrastructure services and 100MVA of utility power, it is Hong Kong’s largest carrier and cloud neutral data centre, enabling Asia-Pacific customers to optimise their IT infrastructures and meet their business needs. The data centre has also achieved a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum Rating and is targeting the Hong Kong Green Building Council’s BEAM Plus New Build Gold rating.
Global Switch Hong Kong passed a validation process and earned the certification by complying with OCP’s guidelines and industry best practices for high-density power, cooling and physical infrastructure, optimised for OCP recognised hardware. The principles of the OCP standard complement Global Switch’s own approach to flexible design for high density and liquid cooled deployments and prove their commitment to innovation, efficiency and sustainability.
Eric Liu, Managing Director, Global Switch Hong Kong said: “To echo the theme of this year’s OCP China Day, Global Switch is committed to providing smart, sustainable and scalable services to our customers. We are proud of the recent recognition of our Hong Kong data centre by the OCP. With our Open Computing Design, our customers can enjoy the most efficient way to deliver their data centre deployment. As the home of the top three China cloud providers, Global Switch Hong Kong also enables our customers to immediately access these clouds just metres away.”
